Where the photos are taken
The best views of Tower Bridge are from the river banks, not from the bridge itself:
- Potters Fields Park and the Queen’s Walk, on the south bank at the west side of the bridge, look straight across at it with the Tower of London behind.
- The north bank in front of the Tower of London gives you the bridge side-on, with the river below.
- Butler’s Wharf and Shad Thames, east of the bridge on the south bank, frame it between old warehouse buildings.
- St Katharine Docks, a few minutes north-east, adds boats to the picture.
The bridge itself is free to walk across. The Tower Bridge Exhibition inside it, with the high-level walkways 42 metres above the Thames and their glass floors, is a separate ticket and not part of a photoshoot.
When to go
The riverside fills up once the Tower of London opens and the tour groups arrive, so the morning is the quiet time. In mid-October the sun rises at about 07:20 and sets at about 18:10; in June it rises before 05:00. A sunrise session gets you the bridge against a bright eastern sky with almost no one around.
